The Chinese ban on time travel

Recommended Posts

Another face of the crack down? or just a farce!?

Quote
Now there’s an interesting trend in China’s film and television industry: more and more time-travel themed dramas are made and aired. In these time-travel based TV plays, usually the protagonist is from the modern time and for some reasons and via some means, travels through time and all the way back to the ancient China where he/she will constantly experience the "culture shock" but gradually get used to it and eventually develop a romance in that era. Though obviously the Chinese audience is found of this genre of shows, the country’s authority -General Bureau of Radio, Film and Television, to be exact, is not happy about this trend and calls a halt to the making of this type of drama.

It is my understanding that it wasn't an outright ban on all things pertaining to time travel, i.e., at least, not anything consistent with the government's propaganda campaign or, more expressly, its textbook versions of history. Therein the comments I found most interesting:

I wonder how anime is supposed to survive then? Don't half those cartoons involve time travel?

Since the Chinese government isn't banning talking pigs, makes me think they are trying to remove awareness of time travel for propaganda reasons. Suppressing the truth yet again!

I can't think of any other reason. Banning time travel topics is an admission that it exists, because why would you ban a topic of something that doesn't exist?

As I recall, there were a lot of young people over in China that were committing suicide over time travel. All because of the time travel shows on TV over there. So the government decided to put a stop to the suicides by removing the cause.

I totaly agree, why ban a topic unless they were afraid

I am also curious about why my country should forbid this conjecture. Is it found what? Who can explain for me, my e-mail [email protected], hoping to reply to my question, grateful. Anyone can. Only b regardless of national boundaries.

Thank you for answering my question. In the past Han dynasty, our country discovered those who may be crossing the road and Wang Mang in history. If interested please check, I will find more people who may be through. Concurrent to the post.

I guess they would hate Marty McFly and his Flying Hovering DeLorean...

I guess they are just stick in the muds

Time Travel Movies are awesome...

They real message

They don't want people "thinking" about "righting" wrongs in the past

by action or activism in the present

Which is very possible

to avenge crimes or change social injustices... from the past

So, how much does watching Back to the Future lower your Social Score?

What if it's the lost cuts with Eric Stoltz?
